Hurricane Iota to Make Landfall Tonight in Nicaragua, the Second Major Hurricane in Two Weeks

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) – Category 4 Hurricane Iota is just hours away from landfall in Nicaragua. Central America will be dealing with another major hurricane just two weeks after Eta. Because of this, the impacts could potentially be catastrophic.

Iota is the 30th named storm of the 2020 season. This is the farthest we have ever gone through the Greek Alphabet. Iota is now the latest category 5 storm on record in the Atlantic. This is also the fifth year in a row the Atlantic Basin has produced at least 1 category 5. The storm will continue on a westward track through the weekend and early next week. Even as Iota weakens it will be a prolific rainmaker through Honduras and Guatemala.

We are also watching another area in the Caribbean that right now, has a low chance for development within 5 days. It is too early for any more details, but it is just something we are watching.
