During the trial of hip-hop entrepreneur Sean “Diddy” Combs, his defense lawyer had his ex-girlfriend read aloud loving text messages she had sent him over the years until she broke down in tears on the witness stand.

The defense aimed to show that the woman, known as “Jane,” was a willing participant in the sexual activities directed by Combs.

Jane read messages expressing her love for Combs, but also revealed instances of anger and jealousy in their relationship.

Prosecutors have charged Combs with sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy, alleging that he used threats and violence to force women into sexual experiences.

Combs has pleaded not guilty and the trial is expected to conclude by July Fourth.
